NICArb’s MEMBER OF THE WEEK

Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, Ph.D is an expert in Sustainable Development and Sustainable Communities Design Development and Management with particular interest in Built Environment in the developing World. The amiable doctor, possesses a Master of Science (Architecture) from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She attended the General Management Course of 1997, Administrative Staff Collage of Nigeria, Topo – Badagry.

Dr. Ramatu obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), focused in Sustainable Communities Design from De Montfort University, Leicester, United Kingdom.

In 2017, she was inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators. She is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) and a Member of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). Past Vice Chairman and later Chairman of the Abuja Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects.

She is a member of the Architect’s Registration Council of Nigeria’s Disciplinary Board; Competition Commission of the International Union of Architect, Montparnasse, Paris France, were UN – Heritage guiding principles are applied for International Architectural and Planning Design competition procedures.

As a past Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Nigerian Institute of Architect, she served on NIA Board of Architectural Education for 7 years. A past Assistant General Secretary of the Africa Union of Architects and a past Secretary of the Unions Education Board; the Pioneer Chairman of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) Abuja Chapter; as well as a past member of NUC visitation panel to the National Mathematical Centre.  

She is an experienced Principal with a demonstrated history of working in the Architecture & Planning industry. Skilled in Sustainable Architecture, Environmental Research, Environmental Impact Assessment, Sustainable Communities, and Construction. She voluntarily resigned from the Nigeria Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in 2007, after fifteen and half years as an employee, after rising to the position of Chief Architect and the Authority’s Facilities Manager.

She is the Founding Principal of Planned Shelter Consult – an Architectural firm; and the Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Planned Shelter (Nig) Ltd. a construction company established in July 2007

She enjoys Traveling, playing golf and listening to music.
