The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) stands as the foremost arbitration institute in Nigeria, established in 1979 under the leadership of the late Honourable Justice Bola Ajibola, SAN, KBE, former Attorney General of Nigeria, and former Judge of the World Court at The Hague. It received formal incorporation in 1988 under the Companies Act as a legal entity limited by guarantee.

NICArb’s mission is dedicated to advancing the administration, development, and domestication of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) practices in Nigeria and beyond through specialized training and capacity building. For over 44 years, it has been a trailblazer in promoting the domestication, knowledge, and practice of arbitration and ADR, earning a reputation as the preferred appointing authority for a broad spectrum of commercial disputes.

As a leading institute/ADR Centre in Nigeria and the West African sub-region, NICArb proudly boasts a membership of about six thousand (6000) professionals from diverse backgrounds, including the Bar, the Bench, and various professions such as academia, accounting, banking, construction, engineering, public service, and community leadership.

NICArb demonstrates adeptness and effectiveness in utilizing ADR mechanisms to skillfully resolve commercial, investment and family disputes for individuals and organizations across many sectors, including aviation, banking, construction, insurance, medical, oil and gas, telecommunications, real estate, debt recovery, insurance, and more.
