The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators on Thursday 21st October 2021, held a press conference in view of its 2021 Annual Conference themed: Disruption and the New Normal in Arbitration/ADR in Africa: A Way Forward.
In a statement by the Registrar/CEO of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Mrs Shola Oshodi-John, she stated that the focus of the conference will be geared towards addressing the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, unexpected disruption in the arbitration and business landscape in such a way that threatens the survival of the practice in societies that are not technologically advanced.
Speaking further, Mrs. Oshodi stated that this year’s conference will be the first Hybrid Annual Conference held by NICArb to create a forum for users, experts and practitioners in Arbitration and ADR across sectors on the African continent and beyond, to discuss and proffer solutions in the wake of the Covid-19 disruptions.
These discussions would also focus on how to improve the use and practice of Arbitration and ADR to create an environment that attracts investment and investor confidence, and a provide a roadmap for dispute resolution under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
She further stated that professionals and dignitaries, from all over Africa will be present to grace the occasion, including:
– The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, SAN, GCON, FCArb (Special Guest of Honour).
– Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State (Chief Host).
