HIS EXCELLENCY, OTUNBA ADENIYI ADEBAYO CON
Niyi Adebayo, alias Otunba, is a Nigerian politician and traditional aristocrat. He served as Governor of Ekiti State from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2003. where he laid the remarkable foundation for development strides. He was also the Pioneer Secretary of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF and represents the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Niyi was admitted to the Nigerian Bar (BL) in 1982, and graduated from the University of Lagos, Nigeria (LL.B Hons.) in 1981. He has played a major role in the nation’s political history and was elected as the first Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria.
Niyi has built a Business and Legal Career spanning about forty years, he has extensive experience in a wide range of disputes & legal and advisory work. His more notable achievements have been in the areas of project finance, oil and gas, contract procurement and business facilitation. He is a member of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association (IBA).
Following his inauguration by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on 21 August 2019, Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo, CON, became Nigeria’s 40th Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment to oversee the government’s goal of economic diversification to non-oil revenue earnings. As the number one investment driver of Nigeria, Adebayo is leading the promotion of government’s policies of Ease of Doing Business, job creation, poverty eradication and industrialization. The Minister has been implementing certain policies and programmes including: standardization of bilateral trade agreements, stimulating growth of domestic Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs and renewed roadmap to increase Nigeria’s Foreign Direct Investment, FDIs.
He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Institute of Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria and a Director of the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria. He is also a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Nigeria. A core chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Minister held office of the Interim National Vice Chairman South West and Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party.
