Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba has tasked the new governing council of the state’s multi door court house to restore confidence in the judiciary. Justice Alogba gave the charge while inaugurating members of the governing council at the conference room of Ikeja High Court.
The Chief Judge charged them to promote and strengthen Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a quicker and amicable method of resolving disputes as against litigation.
The event had in attendance the former Deputy governor of the State, Mr Femi Pedro and a former Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Samuel Ilori among other dignitaries.
The Chief Judge while addressing the Chairman and members of the Governing Council, challenged them to live up to the task entrusted into their hands by finding ways to promote and encourage litigants to explore ADR and other means to reduce the number of cases that appear in court in order to restore the confidence of residents in the Judiciary.
“I have no doubt that the selection and confirmation of the members of this council is an outcome of painstaking search for reputable individuals that would be able to deliver on the mandate of this office.
“I therefore urge you to entrench the procedures of the Lagos Multi Door Court House in the discharge of your duties “
The Chairman of the Council, Justice Jumoke Pedro in her response, thanked the Chief Judge for the opportunity to serve the state as the Chairman of the Governing Council.
Justice Pedro said the new council members will work assiduously towards restoring public confidence in mediation processes.
She reiterated her commitment to ensuring that the Council build a formidable judiciary, by ensuring adequate awareness about ADR system.
Other members of the council chairman are Justice Kudirat Jose, Justice Lateefa Folami, the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), Mr Fayo Adeleye, Mr Kenneth Odusanya, Mr Seyi Katola and Mrs Adeyinka Aroyewun.
