NICArb’s MEMBER OF THE WEEK

Engr. Edo Bassey Etuk, a native of Mbioto II,Etinan LGA of Akwa Ibom State was born in Accra, Ghana on the 20th of June 1964. He obtained his primary and secondary education at Nyiaeso International School (1976) and Prempeh College, Kumasi-Ghana in 1981 respectively. He then studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka leading to the award of a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering with biases in Structural, Public Health and Water Resources Engineering. 

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (B.Eng.)(1987), Masters of Business Administration(MBA)(2004) and is a registered member of various professional bodies such as Nigerian Society of Engineers(1996)(MNSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria COREN(1997), Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers(NICE)(2019) and a Member of Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators(MCArb))(2019). 

He commenced his working career as Site Engineer with Societe’ Generale’ Enterprise Nigeria Limited (SGEN), a Construction Company in 1988 on the Construction of Uyo Township Roads Project in Akwa Ibom State. This was followed by a three year stay (1989-1993) as a Structural Engineer with the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing Lagos, covering Analysis, Design, Preparation of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Supervision of Construction of public buildings in the federation. 

His quest for new challenges saw him join a ship building Nigerdock Nigeria Limited, Apapa-Lagos as a pioneer Civil Engineer of the company between 1993 and 1995. He moved on to join the foremost Engineering Consultancy Firm AIM Consultants Limited as an Assistant Resident Engineer on the 60 Million USD World Bank Assisted Lagos Stormwater Drainage Project.

He was appointed the Project Coordinator by Deltatek Engineering Limited for the N100M Soil Investigation works for the Cawthorne Channel Associated Gas Gathering (CCAGG) Project awarded to it by Shell Petroleum Development Company in Rivers State in 2001 and following the heels of the CCAGG Project, was another assignment in similar capacity with Deltatek on a N5million Soil Investigation Project for Daewoo Nigeria Limited at Qua Iboe Terminal, Ibeno Akwa Ibom State in February 2002. He soon after took up a partnership deal with Deus Ventures as Projects Coordinator until August, 2003.

In 2003 he was appointed Special Assistant to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Project Evaluation & Monitoring. Following his service for the period ended 2007, he resumed his private practice of Engineering with OMRI Engineering Limited. From 2010 to 2020 he held sway as the Director of Works at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo.

January 2021 saw him take up a new mantle of leadership as the substantive Managing Director/Chief Executive of State owned Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited.
